Social Enterprises
Our firm works with a highly innovative array of social enterprises that go beyond traditional start-up frameworks. The essence of our counsel to social enterprises reflects a balance between thinking deeply about appropriate legal structures to enhance social missions and providing a legal foundation for these new entities within the appropriate legal structures.
Our social enterprise clients represent many of today’s community economic development
efforts, such as city sponsored pop-up business initiatives. SVL client Marion and Rose’s Workshop, a retailer of locally hand-crafted accessories assembled from sustainable materials, opened up shop amidst Oakland’s pop-up movement aiming to revitalize the Old Oakland Historic District. In San Francisco, Social Venture Law helped Hillside Supper Club grow from a popular pop-up restaurant two nights a week in Bernal Heights to full ownership of the restaurant highlighting fresh, local, and organic ingredients while promoting dining as a communal neighborhood experience.
